Location of Job: Valencia, CA
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Exemption Status: Non-Exempt
Grade/Salary Range: $80,000 - $130,000/yr
Summary of duties and responsibilities:
Directly responsible
for the development and design of visible light optical systems using
the ASAP modeling tool, bench experiments, and prototypes focused in Wavien
target markets. Works with Wavien licensees to clearly identify the Licensee
specifications and develop efficient optical solutions within those specifications.
Assists other Optical Scientists, in a collegiate environment, to develop
and assess new technologies and to resolve issues surrounding existing
technologies. Works with vendors to obtain necessary optical components
and with technicians to satisfactorily generate experimental results.
Essential duties
and responsibilities:
- Develops or assists
with development of ASAP optical models. Communicates the findings of
the models in a way that clearly and concisely generates necessary actions.
- Designs experiments,
assists technicians with set up of optical and electrical experiments,
and clearly and concisely interprets and communicates the results of
those experiments.
- Whenever possible,
develops and presents new technologies for potential patent by Wavien.
- Uses a variety
of information gathering equipment including, but not limited to, lumen
meters, spectrometers, colorimeters, voltmeters, and temperature measurement
devices.
- Communicates with
internal and external customers to obtain requirements and feedback.
Travels occasionally to customers
- Maintains personal
and common work areas in an organized manner.
- Supports the functions
of other optical scientists and technicians including optical design,
licensee support, and technology evaluation.
- Consistently complies
with visual and physical safety standards.
- Completes any other
task as assigned by management.
Education, prior
work experience, and specialized skills and knowledge:
- Ph.D. Degree in
Optical Technology
- Experience dealing
with design and testing of optical and electronic systems.
- Experience with
lens design preferred.
- Knowledge of visible
light and systems that control light.
- Basic drafting
skills with the ability to read and interpret CAD drawings.
- Experience with
optical and electronic measurement systems.
- Data analysis skills
including optical ray tracing systems, computer manipulation and representation.
- Willingness to
work well with others.
- Willingness to
participate in a learning environment.
- History of scientific
publication.
